The honeybush, like the redbush, was discovered in South Africa in the 18th century. The shrub got its name from a very characteristic appearance with yellow, brightly shining and honey-scented flowers. The wild growth thrives exclusively on the small mountain ranges in the so-called Longkloof District. Rediscovered in the nineties, the honeybush is now grown commercially at 35 different locations. The wild plants are thus spared as much as possible. When infused, it smells and tastes pleasantly sweet and aromatic.
