In the land of the rising sun, which traditionally only respects green teas, there has been a recent trend towards fermented teas. Black teas, e.g. from Darjeeling or Sri Lanka, are gaining in popularity. Local companies are trying their hand at producing black teas. They are doing this with success. This is shown by this organic Benifuki tea from Japan. In the prefecture of Kagoshima in 1965, a hybrid of the species "Thea Assamica" and "Thea Sinesis" has been developed. Coarser, deep black, visually rather flat leaf structure, reddish golden cup colour, the taste profile with full body and pleasant sweetness, a hint of ripe plums lingers on the tongue.
