In 1833, Earl Grey, the Earl of Howick Hall, as British Prime Minister, abolished the East Indian Company's price monopoly in the tea trade with China. The tea had to make long journeys from overseas to royal England, where must and tar flavours from the holds could penetrate the leaves. Thus, the originally pure tea was already enriched in China with fine oils of bergamot, a citrus plant. This protective, additional fragrance is still responsible for the popular name, which stands for the finest English tea. Ingredients: black tea, natural bergamot aroma with other natural aromas.
